The mid-1980’s was the backdrop of my initial exposure to photography. I was one of three photographers for the high school yearbook, and now, looking back, a great deal of my photos appeared in that book! I knew then that some form of communication (whether visual or otherwise) would dictate my career choices. I completed my bachelor of science degree in journalism at Iowa State University. Thereafter, I held a number of positions in my field; my days spent working at The Des Moines Register, at various University printing and publications offices, and at National Computer Systems allowed me to sharpen my written communication skills. When I decided to return to school and complete my master’s degree in communication studies, my interest in human emotion vis-a-vis communication resurfaced and this time culminated in a research study focusing on communication strategies in the area of organ donation.

My husband and I moved our family to Austin in 1998, and during the time that I’ve operated archive photography, the bulk of my work has involved families and children. However, in the interest of my goal to continue to expand my opportunities I have accepted projects such as: engagement ceremonies, high school seniors, images for business websites and office decor, artist photos for music CD, pets, mother-and-child, and a new and exciting initiative, “First Hours” (delivery room and/or newborn photography). Perhaps the most exciting, on-going opportunity that I currently enjoy is my time spent with Austin Family magazine. How fun it is to see my work proudly displayed each month on the front cover!
Some of my images can also be seen in the 2003 book titled Precious Treasures, published by New York’s Signator Publishing Group, Inc. as well as on the front cover of previous issues of other local magazines.

And finally, on a freelance basis, I have discovered my passion for photographing and writing about Thoroughbred horseracing. I’ve attended a number of top events such as the Breeders’ Cup, the Kentucky Derby, and other grade 1 races throughout the country. My visits to premier racing venues like Saratoga Race Course, Churchill Downs, and Santa Anita Racetrack have afforded me not only gorgeous photographic opportunities, but memories of a lifetime.
